A website to visit - Quackwatch.org

Quackwatch, Inc., a member of Consumer Federation of America, is a nonprofit corporation whose purpose is to combat health-related frauds, myths, fads, and fallacies. Its primary focus is on quackery-related information that is difficult or impossible to get elsewhere. Their activities include:

  • Investigating questionable claims
  • Answering inquiries
  • Distributing reliable publications
  • Reporting illegal marketing
  • Generating consumer-protection lawsuits
  • Improving the quality of health information on the Internet
  • Attacking misleading advertising on the Internet

They also maintain the following sites:

MLM Watch

  • Analysis of health claims made for multilevel products
  • Pinpointing the risks involved in becoming a multilevel distributor
  • Warning about inappropriate claims
  • Reporting illegal claims for products to regulatory agencies
  • Helping people seek legal redress against MLM companies.

NutriWatch

  • Analysis of health claims made for nutrition-related products
  • Warning about inappropriate claims
  • Reporting illegal claims for products to regulatory agencies
  • Helping people seek legal redress against dietary supplement companies.

HomeoWatch

Homeopathic "remedies" are usually harmless, but their associated misbeliefs are not. When people are healthy, it may not matter what they believe. But when serious illness strikes, false beliefs can lead to disaster. This Web site provides information about homeopathy that is difficult or impossible to find elsewhere.

Internet Health Pilot

A gateway to reliable health information (under construction).

Dental Watch.

  • Providing basic information
  • Debunking misleading claims
  • Identifying reliable information sources
  • Reporting improper actions to regulatory agencies
  • Helping people seek legal redress when victimized

Check out the cheers and jeers sections of each of these sites. The jeers are a testament to the ignorance that exists today (and is commonly perpetrated by the media) regarding the practice of medicine.

Also, I would encourage that you subscribe to their newsletter as well
