Gentian Violet Stain Recipe

Gentian Violet is one of the stains used in the gram stain procedure. Gram-positive bacteria take up and retain gentian violet stain.

1. Dissolve 1g gentian violet in 20ml of 95% ethanol
2. Add 60ml 5% formalin to the solution from step 1 and mix completely
3. Filter solution to remove any precipitate
